25th November is the International Day for the Prevention of Violence against Women and Girls. Activists mark it as a day against gender violence since 1981. The date was chosen in honor of the Mirabal sisters, three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally murdered on November 25, 1960 for resisting the then State regime.
